02 Jul Oregonians Celebrate First Day of Full Marijuana Legalization
Steve Martinez usually would think twice before driving around Portland with a couple of starter marijuana plants in his car.
But on Wednesday, he walked into the searing heat of a summer’s day and drove his two clones – Sour Cannatonic and Oregon Lemon – to a Northeast Portland celebration without a care in the world.
“This is a dream come true,” said Martinez, taking a drag off a joint at a Willamette Week-sponsored cannabis celebration. “I don’t even know what to say. I drove here with plants in my car like they were tomatoes.”
Oregon on Wednesday joined a handful of states where it’s legal for anyone 21 and older to possess and grow cannabis. It was a historic but understated day. While Oregonians can possess up to 8 ounces at home and an ounce away from home, they can’t buy it anywhere in the state. [Read more at the Portland Oregonian]
